Milestone for Lead Project:

So we can't really do the babysitting thing on the next information night because there are not that many kids to take care of. So, Ana, Cole and I were thinking that we should help various of teachers with various things after school on Jan. 07,2011. We just have to ask those teachers if we can help them. Our milestone is on the week of Jan.3-7 if we don't get it done by Jan. 7. We also have to get some students to help us out because it is a lot of work for just three people.
On my helping project, I am planning to help Molly out with labeling, sorting, and delivering out the candy canes for the Candy Grams sell that she is organizing. I am going to help her during seventh period this week on Thursday.
Then my lead project that I am planning to do is going to take place on the week of Jan.3-7, after school. I am going to ask about 6-7 people to help me out with an AHS campus clean-up or clean a road near the school. I am going to ask the janitor for the materials I need which is going to be on the week we come back from break. I just need a couple of people who are willing to help out.

What's going on so far

Right now I haven't completed any project yet but I am planning to have a cleanup at Aviation High School or a road that is close to the school. I just have to ask the ASB for money to buy the materials I need and ask them if they have the materials I need to complete the project. If the ASB don't have the materials I can just buy them. When I have that planned out then I can start my project. I am also planning on helping Ana and Cole with their project which is going to take place on Information Night at the cafeteria of our school or on January because today we talked to Mrs. Hiranaka and told her about our project. But she isn't the one who takes care of that, Mrs.Stark is the one who does. She was absent today but we might be able to ask her tomorrow and see if we can do the day care project on Information Night or on January when the last Information Night is going to take place. That is all I am planning to do for my Independent Projects so far.

Proposal for Lead Project #2

Executive Summary:
So my project that I am going to be working on is about cleaning up the campus of Aviation High School or a road that is nearby the school. The objective of this project is to make the community a cleaner place to live in and help the environment not get polluted by the garbage people throw on roads and school. The expected outcome of the project is to get the school grounds cleaned up or a road that is close to the school. We want the community to get rid of littering because it is a bad habit to get into and a bad habit to quit. The materials we will need to make this a succesful project are: gloves, trash bags, people who are willing to help, money, trash pickers. The methods we are going to do are two or three people will work on the back of the school and then the other two or three people will clean the front of the school. If we do the part where we clean a road instead of the school then we can split the job by two or three of us doing one half of the road while the other group does the other half, and we can all meet at the middle of the road when we are finished.

Need:
What we will need to make this project successful is enthusiastic people who are willing to give their time to help clean up the community they live in. The significance for this project is to get a group of five to six persons to help clean up the school of Aviation High School or a road nearby the school. The purpose is to help the community by making it a cleaner place to live. The materials that are needed will be: a bag of gloves, trash bags, and trash picker. This will benefit the school and the community because we are cleaning up the community because it will make the place cleaner and a better place to live in. The sponsor should give us the funding because it will be nice if they could give us the materials we need to make this a succesful project and not worry about how we are going to get the materials. The administrator should allow me to complete this project on school grounds because this will also help our school have a cleaner environment and let the students realize that littering is not good. This will help the students be more responsible about thinking twice about littering and if they see someone litter they should tell them not too.

Objective:
My expected outcome of the project is to get the campus of Aviaiton High School cleaned or a road that is nearby the school. I plan to start on Thanksgiving break or something or the week after Thanksgiving break to give us time to talk to the administrator at our school and see if someone can sponsor us on the materials that will be needed. I plan to do the front grounds of our school or a whole road that is close to the school. Short term objectives will be to get the materials and get permission from the school administrator to clean the grounds at Aviation High School or a road that is close to the school.

Method:
I will achieve the objectives I have established by talking to other people who might be interested in helping me out in advance. I can also get the materials that are going to be needed as soon as possible. I can ask Mrs.Fitz or the ASB to donate the materials or money so I can buy the materials. The population I am addressing are the students because they are the ones who are going to help me out with this project. Anticipated problems will be addressed by planning everthing in advance and not at the last minute. Also I will keep everyone on task and updated on when the project is going to take place and the time.

Evaluation:
I will know that the project was effective and succesful when the place is cleaned up from all the garbage and looks way cleaner than before. I will connect information to improve the project by maybe cleaning up another road or so if I do the same project again. What could also happen is we could take more time and clean the place better and not leave one single of garbage. I will analyze the data/results by the compliments the people tell the school or the teachers tell us how nice the roads or the school grounds look like.

Qualifications:
I will not be working with any facilities. The equipment that I am hoping that the ASB will have are trash bags, gloves, trash pickers. If I won't be able to get the materials from the ASB from my school and the money to buy the materials then I can probably go to a store or something that sells these things. I am thinking that some of my friends that are not in leadership class might be able to help me if I ask them. I haven't asked any of them yet but I am going to, soon. The people I am going to ask to help me are a qualified to help me complete the job because we all go to the same school and would like to see the place get cleaner. They are also responsible and will stay on task during the project. I am a good candidate for this project because I am really responsible and will make sure that everyone is doing the same amount of work and staying on task. I have done this once when I was volunteering to help the streets of White Center and I guess it was really fun because I knew I was helping out the community with others and that is a good thing. The methods I will use to keep my advisor on touch is tell them what is going on during leadership class or IP project time. If I can't during that time than I can email my advisor about questions I have or how things are going.

Timetable:
I know it will take days to plan this but to finish the project will only take one day, a couple of minutes or hours. Depends on the street we do and how much time it takes us to finish.

Milestone Dates

-Nov. 29-Dec. 1 :Get money from the ASB and materials needed for the project.
-Dec. 2 or 3 : Clean up campus grounds of Aviation High school or a road nearby.

Budget:
The materials won't cost a lot of money because each person will only use one trash bag and two pairs of gloves. My plan to obtain the money needed is to ask the ASB if they could give us the money for the materials.

Materials
Amount Needed
Cost $
gloves
A box
$7.00
Trash bags
5/6
$5.00
Trash picker
5/6
$20.00

Conclusion:
This project is worthwhile because it will help our community be a cleaner place to live in. Also it will us as students understand that littering is bad and the consequences for littering are making the earth polluted and ugly looking for the trash that is being thrown on the roads and not in garbage trash. This project may be a foundation for other students or other potential projects because these kinds of projects could be done in different places and will help that place a better environment to live in. The students can learn how to plan a project like this if they want to in the future by looking at our blog and our comments to each other about what kinds of problems we faced and how we solved them.

Candy Grams Leading Project

The updates on my lead project include:
The upcoming events are for the month of November we are planning to sell caramel apples the week before thanksgiving and the month of December we are going to sell candy canes so that people will have a treat after lunch and so we can donate some money to charity. What we are planning to do is first we have to get the caramel apples and we are going to ask the ASB to help us pay for the caramel apples. After that is arranged we are going to advertise by hanging posters on the schools hallways and spreading the word to everyone we see. Then we are going to start setting up the sale in the cafeteria and we are going to ask more people to help us on that. So far if the sells go as planned we will be donating a fair amount of money to charity and we are going to help our community by doing that because we are helping the people who are less fortunate.

Goals:
Our goals to accomplish are to have the sell run smoothly and get enough money to pay the ASB and give the rest to charity. Another goal I have is to get a lot of people involved so that we can become closer and not hesitate when we have a problem because there would be others to help us out. Our goal is to have the sell be a success and further on have different kinds of sells at our school.

Plans:
The plans we have so far so that the candy grams will be a success include:
We are going to have the sell during lunch on Nov. 15-19. We are going to put posters on the hallways during seventh period and ask Ms. Fitz if she could ask other kids if they are willing to help us label and deliver the caramel apples. We could also use some help in selling the caramel apples during lunch because so far we have three people and I don't think that is enough. So after the sell is done we are going to donate the money to charity. So for the month of December we are going to start planning the candy canes sell which we are hoping to start selling on Dec. 6-9. We are going to do the same thing for the sell on December.

Different Projects List

The projects I am planning to lead this semester and the students who are helping me include:
1. For the month of November and December the project I am doing is I'm going to be selling candy grams on the week before Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is my semester project. For now this is the only project I am working on because I have no idea what my other projects are going to be. The people who are going to help me are: Molly W, Ramneet and other people I still have to ask to help sell the candy grams during lunch time and also people to help me advertise, sort, and deliver the candy grams.

2.Right now the candy grams project is the one I am planning to lead this semester with Molly W. because it's going to take the whole semester to make this happen. The people who are going to help me are: Ramneet and other people who are willing to help.

What might not work and how I will solve it

*Need people to advertise, sell, and deliver pops.
To make sure this is not a problem my group will ask other leadership students to help us advertise during IP working time. We can also make signs at home and bring them to school and tell our friends or leadership students to help us put them in the hallways of our school. The first day or so before the sell we can ask Ms. Fitz to ask leadership students if they would be willing to help us sell our candy grams during lunchtime.

*Some people may not buy pops
Even though the candy grams we are trying to sell are really cheap some people don't buy candy grams and that will lower our goal of selling 10 bags per day.

But to make sure a lot of people buy and hear about the sell of candy grams we will advertise and spread the word to our friends and so on.

*May not get the preparation in time for the Halloween sale

We are not going to be able to sell Halloween Grams because it's too late and there hasn't been any advertising or funding made for the candy.
What my partner and I have decided to do are Turkey grams for Thanksgiving instead. We will probably sell caramel apples for the turkey grams. Now that we know what we are going to sell we will have more time to advertise and spread the word. In addition, we are going to have more time to maybe get funded by the ASB. We might start the sale during the week of Nov.15-19.

2. decide what candy will be sold
3. make/print labels on orange or black paper for Halloween candy grams
4. make signs/ advertise

Mentor/advisor for project:

Phone/email of advisor:

By the end of this project what I would like to see as the end result is to be able to donate a large sum of money we make by selling the candy grams to charity. I want my team members and I to make this project work and run smoothly. We will have to attach candy, properly separate it, and deliver it. This project will align with our mission and goals as a class because we are improving our community by raising money to donate to charity. By helping charity we are making the world a better place.

The biggest obstacles or challenges we think we might face are getting the candy, having time to sort and deliver the candy. In class we would have to sort the tags for the different classes, and tape the candy to them. If we have more people it will be much easier because it wouldn't take as long. We could either buy the candy or have people in our class help us by bring a bag or two of candy.

The milestones we are going to meet are:
Before Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas we were thinking of setting up a gram sale and donating all the profits to charity. We will sell the candy grams for 25 cents each. How this will work:

1. The week before each sell the group will:
a.prepare labels to tape tp the candy(printing/cutting out in appropriate colors/pictures)
b. collect the candy itself.
c.advertise/make signs around the school.

2. At lunch for the week of each sale, there will be a table set up during lunch. Buyers will:
a. give the money to one person.
b. another person will give them the labels.
c. on the labels the buyer will write who they want to send the candy gram to, who the candy gram is from, and the teacher of the recipients last period class.

3. Later, that day in leadership class the group will attach the candy to the labels and then separate them to the class they will go to. Finally, we will deliver them to the appropriate classrooms.

The Milestones for the Dates These Events Will Take Place are:
Oct. 11-17: collect Halloween candy, make Halloween labels and advertise.
Oct. 25-29: sell Halloween candy grams during lunch and deliver them during leadership class.
Nov. 15-19: collect Thanksgiving candy, make Thanksgiving labels and advertise.
Nov. 22-24: sell Thanksgiving candy, make Thanksgiving labels and advertise.
Dec. 1-10: collect candy canes, make Christmas labels and advertise.
Dec. 13- Break: sell candy cane grams.

I will work really hard to meet the deadlines. I will make sure everyone in my group is doing their jobs and are not slacking off. I will manage our time well so that we don't get behind with the deadlines.

The following are the materials we will need to succesfully carry out our project:
- Candy for Halloween and Thanksgiving
-Candy canes for Christmas
- Orange, black, brown, purple, red, and green printer paper for the labels
- Tape to attach the candy grams and labels
- Table to use for sell at lunch
- Sign makings to advertise

Other things we need besides materials to be succesful in selling our candy grams are people willing to help make signs to advertise, attach the labels to the candy grams, sorting the labels and help us deliver them. We also need someone to help us count the money after the sell.

Here are the jobs people will be doing if they choose to help:
           - make signs to hang around school (2-3 people)
           - sell the candy grams during lunch ( 2 people)
           - sort and assemble the candy grams ( 3-5 people)
           - deliver the candy grams ( 4-5 people)

My plan to hold myself and my group accountable for the success of our project is.
I will make sure my group is on task, doing their assigned job and not slacking off. I will manage the time for everyone in my group to have enough time to advertise, sell, sort and deliver the candy grams.
